Thong Sala Night Market
Koh Phangan's best local food market in the island's main port town — Thai curries, pad thai, grilled satay, fresh smoothies, and vegetarian options at prices the beach areas simply cannot match.

About this Place
Thong Sala Night Market — locally known as the Walking Street market — is the beating heart of Koh Phangan's main port town and the single best place on the entire island for affordable, authentic Thai food. Each evening from around five o'clock, rows of illuminated stalls fill the pedestrianised street with the aromas of Thai cooking: thick massaman and green curries ladled over jasmine rice, stir-fried pad thai with prawns, freshly blended fruit smoothies, grilled satay skewers, crispy banana rotis drizzled with condensed milk, and a generous selection of vegetarian dishes that would satisfy any plant-based traveller. Prices are a fraction of what the tourist beaches charge for comparable food. The atmosphere is decisively local — families with children, monks collecting evening alms, long-term expat residents, and market traders all mingling with backpackers and couples in a relaxed, unhurried setting. Behind the main market, a fresh fish section sells the day's catch directly. Thong Sala is the island's ferry terminal, and the market makes an ideal first meal on arrival or a final farewell dinner before the morning boat. Live music occasionally accompanies the evening. The surrounding streets have fruit stalls and cheap clothing vendors open until late.
