Kata Beach
Phuket's most beloved crescent beach — 1.5km of white sand with calm swimming in dry season and real surf in the monsoon months. Kata Noi cove is a short walk south; the Karon Viewpoint three-beach panorama is 10 minutes up the hill. Quieter and more relaxed than Patong.

About this Place
Kata Beach is consistently ranked among Phuket's most beloved stretches of sand — a 1.5-kilometre crescent of white sand and clear water that manages to offer something for every type of traveller without descending into the full-resort chaos of nearby Patong. The beach faces west and catches excellent Andaman sunsets, with the offshore island of Ko Pu sitting just a few hundred metres out providing a natural focal point for late afternoon light. During the dry season (November to April), Kata's waters are calm and ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and paddleboarding. Come the monsoon months (May to October), the conditions reverse: the surf picks up considerably, and Kata becomes one of Phuket's best surf beaches, with consistent waves drawing both learners and experienced surfers to the rental shops that line the southern end of the beach. Just around the southern headland lies Kata Noi (Little Kata) — a shorter, quieter cove that feels more secluded despite being a five-minute walk away. Ten minutes up the hill from Kata, the famous Karon Viewpoint delivers one of the most photographed vistas in all of Phuket: three beaches — Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon — visible in a single panoramic sweep. The Boathouse, a long-established beachfront restaurant at Kata's southern end, is the area's most acclaimed dining address. The accommodation range runs from backpacker guesthouses to mid-range boutique resorts, with the party-heavy scene noticeably absent — making Kata the preferred base for families and couples.
