About Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta – Overview

Koh Lanta, officially Koh Lanta Yai, is a 30-kilometer-long and 6-kilometer-wide island in Krabi province that stands apart from Southern Thailand's party islands. While Koh Phi Phi and Phuket lean into mass tourism, Koh Lanta has held on to its unhurried character. The island is home to around 30,000 residents, including a significant sea gypsy community (Chao Leh) and a historic Chinese-Muslim population in the Old Town. For vloggers who want to showcase authentic island life beyond the mainstream, Koh Lanta is a treasure.

Koh Lanta – Nature & Sightseeing

The west coast strings one beach after another, each with its own personality. Klong Dao Beach in the north is the longest and most family-friendly, with shallow water and restaurants right on the sand. Long Beach (Phra Ae) has the widest selection of accommodation and bars. Klong Khong is the backpacker hub with reggae bars and budget bungalows from 500 Baht. Bamboo Beach further south grows progressively quieter until you reach Kantiang Bay, a sheltered cove that ranks among the island's most beautiful. At the far southern end lies the Mu Ko Lanta National Park (200 Baht entry) with its iconic lighthouse at the cape, which at sunset provides one of the most photographed scenes on the entire Andaman coast.

Koh Lanta – Local Life

The Old Town, also called Lanta Old Town or Ban Si Raya, on the east coast is the cultural heart of the island. The wooden stilt houses built over the water date from the era when Koh Lanta was an important trading post on the route between Penang, Phuket and the Malay Archipelago. Today the restored shophouses host small cafes, art galleries and souvenir shops. The Hammock House Cafe serves excellent Thai coffee from 60 Baht with sea views. The atmosphere recalls old Phuket before mass tourism arrived, making the Old Town a popular subject for culture and history content.
