About Buriram

Buriram – Overview

Buriram is a hidden gem among Thailand vloggers, offering a compelling blend of ancient Khmer history, world-class motorsport, and authentic Isan rural living. This province of roughly 1.5 million people sits 410 kilometers northeast of Bangkok on the southern edge of the Khorat Plateau, bordering Cambodia to the south. Far from typical tourist routes, Buriram gives content creators an unfiltered view of countryside Thailand that captivates audiences seeking something beyond the usual beach and island content.

Buriram – Nature & Sightseeing

The historical centerpiece of the province is Phanom Rung Historical Park, a majestic Khmer temple complex perched atop an extinct volcano at 380 meters elevation. Dating from the 10th to 13th centuries and originally dedicated to Shiva, this sanctuary rivals Angkor Wat in architectural beauty. The 52-meter Naga staircase leads up to the main sanctuary, where a spectacular natural phenomenon occurs when the sun aligns perfectly through all 15 doorways. This alignment happens precisely four times per year, at sunrise on April 3 to 5 and September 8 to 10, and at sunset on March 5 to 7 and October 5 to 7. Entry costs just 100 Baht. At the base of the hill, Prasat Muang Tam, another Khmer ruin with lotus ponds and Baray reservoirs, costs an additional 100 Baht and is equally photogenic but often overlooked by visitors. For drone footage, Phanom Rung's elevated position makes it one of the most visually striking filming locations in all of Thailand.

Buriram – Local Life

Buriram's second claim to fame is motorsport. The Chang International Circuit, a 4.554-kilometer FIA Grade 1 track, hosts the MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix, which served as the 2026 season opener from February 27 to March 1. The Superbike World Championship also visits regularly. The Thunder Castle Stadium, with 32,600 seats, is home to Buriram United, one of Thailand's most successful football clubs. Thai League tickets start from 100 Baht. For sports and motorsport vloggers, Buriram offers unique event coverage opportunities not found in any other Isan province, and the contrast between world-class venues and surrounding rice paddies creates compelling visual narratives.
