Most travellers pass through Surat Thani en route to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, or Koh Tao, and Wangtai provides a comfortable overnight stop before the morning ferry or bus connection. The river-facing rooms offer pleasant views across the Tapi, particularly atmospheric at dusk when fishing boats return and the night market lanterns begin to glow along the waterfront. The hotel pool provides welcome relief from the southern Thai heat, and the restaurant serves solid Thai food at reasonable prices. During the Chak Phra Festival in October, the hotel's riverside location offers front-row views of the spectacular boat procession.
