Phra Narai Ratchaniwet (King Narai Palace)

Lopburi $ 4.3

King Narais palace with Khmer-Thai-European architecture and national museum — testament to early modern globalization.

About this Place

Phra Narai Ratchaniwet was the palace of King Narai the Great (1656-1688), who made Lopburi his second capital. The palace combines Khmer, Thai, and European architecture — testament to Narais openness to foreign cultures and his diplomacy with the French court of Louis XIV. Today the palace houses the Narai National Museum with artifacts from the Lopburi, Dvaravati, and Ayutthaya periods.
