Khao Kheow Open Zoo
Thailand's most spacious hillside zoo with 8,000 animals in open forest enclosures — white lions, giraffes, and a night safari 40km from Pattaya.

About this Place
Khao Kheow Open Zoo is one of Thailand's finest and most spacious zoos, built into the natural hillside forest of Chonburi's interior with large open enclosures that approach a safari park experience. The 5,000-acre grounds house over 8,000 animals representing 300+ species — white lions, giraffe, hippopotamus, Asian elephant, various deer species, rare birds, and impressive reptile exhibits. Night safari tours (separate ticket) offer a completely different experience after dark when nocturnal animals become active. The zoo participates in international conservation breeding programmes for rare and endangered species. Cable cars traverse the hilly terrain between sections. The Children's Discovery Zone has hands-on animal experiences. One of Bangkok day-trip circuit's most underrated destinations — far larger and more naturalistic than Dusit Zoo in Bangkok. Located 40km from Pattaya, easily combined as a half-day diversion on the Chonburi–Pattaya route.
