About this Place
Phra Pathom Chedi at 120.5 m is the tallest stupa in the world and the landmark of Nakhon Pathom. The original stupa dates from the 6th century and marks the spot where Buddhism first took root in Thailand. The current Sri Lankan-style structure was erected by King Mongkut (Rama IV) in the 19th century. A museum inside displays archaeological finds from the Dvaravati period.
