Koh Mak
Trat's most beautiful quiet island — coconut groves, pristine turquoise water, no motorised beach toys, and a community dedicated to keeping it unspoiled.

About this Place
Koh Mak is Trat province's most beautifully understated island — a flat, coconut-palm-covered island with calm shallow turquoise water, a genuinely slow pace, and a commitment to low-impact tourism backed by the island's community. No large hotels, no motorised beach toys, no go-go bars — just bungalow resorts, coconut groves, and the clearest water in the Trat archipelago. Ao Kao beach on the southwest is stunning. The island is small enough to bicycle across in 30 minutes. Koh Mak's community has actively limited development to preserve the island character. Snorkelling directly off the beach is excellent, with coral closer to shore than most Thai islands. Day trips to Koh Kradat, Koh Kham, and Koh Wai are easily arranged from the beach. Best for couples, photographers, digital nomads, and anyone deliberately avoiding the party island circuit. Reachable via high-speed boat from Bangkok's Khlong Toei or slow ferry via Koh Chang.
