Si Satchanalai Historical Park
Sukhothai's less-visited sister UNESCO site — 200+ temple ruins in forested hills including elephant-buttressed chedis and ancient Sangkalok pottery kilns.

About this Place
Si Satchanalai is the sister city of Sukhothai and the better-preserved, less-visited alternative — often described by historians as the more authentic of the two Sukhothai-era World Heritage Sites. The park spans a 45 sq km forested site on the Yom River, 60km north of Sukhothai, containing over 200 ruins spread across hilly terrain. Wat Chang Lom (decorated with 39 elephant buttresses) and the Sri Lankan-influenced chedis are architectural highlights. The Sangkalok kiln sites nearby document the ancient ceramics industry that made Sukhothai's traded pottery famous across Asia. Far fewer visitors than Sukhothai means genuine solitude among 700-year-old ruins. Rent a bicycle or take the shuttlebus between zones. Combine with the Chaliang satellite city ruins (Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat) across the Yom River.
