Dan Kwian Pottery Village
A 2,000-year-old pottery village with clay found nowhere else on earth — Dan Kwian's dark-red ceramics are fired in traditional kilns and sold direct from family workshops.

About this Place
Dan Kwian village, 15km south of Korat, has produced distinctive red-ochre pottery for over 2,000 years using a unique iron-rich local clay found nowhere else in Thailand. The village's signature dark reddish-brown unglazed ceramics — decorated with embossed dragon, flower, and geometric patterns — are instantly recognisable and are used extensively in temples, homes, and restaurants throughout the country. The village street is lined with family workshops and showrooms where potters throw, hand-decorate, and kiln-fire pieces using techniques passed down through generations. Visitors can watch the full production process from shaping to firing and buy directly from the craftspeople at fair prices. Dan Kwian ceramics range from small decorative gifts and tableware to large architectural garden urns and statement sculpture. The village is a model of sustained traditional craft production that has remained commercially viable through genuine quality rather than tourist kitsch. An excellent place to find authentic, locally made Thai handicrafts. Combine easily with a visit to Phimai Historical Park to the north.
