Nong Mon Market (Largest Floating Market Near Bangkok)

Chonburi $ 4.4

A 200-year-old market in Chonburi operating before dawn — one of eastern Thailand's largest authentic wholesale markets with Gulf seafood, tropical produce, and local street food.

About this Place

Nong Mon Market is a sprawling traditional Thai morning market in Chonburi city that has operated continuously for over 200 years, considered one of the largest authentic wet markets in eastern Thailand. Unlike the tourist-oriented floating markets near Bangkok, Nong Mon is a working wholesale and retail market where local households, restaurant owners, and street food vendors shop at dawn. The stalls cover several city blocks: fresh seafood from the Gulf, tropical fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, prepared foods, religious offerings, and live poultry. The market is most active 05:00–08:00. The distinctive Chonburi regional specialties on sale — deep-fried sea snails, grilled freshwater fish, sour curry (gaeng som), and fresh roti — are rarely found in Bangkok's tourist markets. The market is entirely local in character with no English signage, making the visit genuinely immersive. A half-hour drive from Pattaya or 1 hour from central Bangkok.
