The current structure encases an older stupa believed to date from the Dvaravati period (6th to 11th centuries), making this site one of the earliest Buddhist monuments in Thailand. The surrounding temple grounds are expansive and include a museum, multiple prayer halls, manicured gardens, and a bustling market that operates throughout the week.
