San Phra Kan (Kala Shrine)
10th-century Hindu-Khmer shrine at the center of Lopburis monkey territory with Vishnu statue.
About this Place
San Phra Kan is a small but significant Hindu-Khmer shrine opposite the train station, built on laterite foundations from the 10th century. Together with Prang Sam Yot, it forms the center of the monkey territory in Lopburi. The shrine houses a four-armed Vishnu statue and is surrounded by hundreds of free-roaming macaques. The combination of sacred site and monkey spectacle is unique in Thailand.
