Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, locally called Wat Yai, houses the Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, widely regarded as the most beautiful Buddha statue in Thailand. The Sukhothai-era bronze statue with its unique flame-shaped aureole draws pilgrims from across Thailand. The temple on the banks of the Nan River is a major pilgrimage site and one of the most visited temples outside Bangkok.
