Phra Nakhon Khiri (Khao Wang)

Royal hilltop palace blending Thai, European, and Chinese architecture with a royal observatory.

About this Place

Phra Nakhon Khiri, locally called Khao Wang, is a royal palace complex on a hill above Phetchaburi. Built by King Mongkut (Rama IV) in 1860, the palace combines Thai, European, and Chinese architectural styles. A cable car takes visitors up the hill where several temples, the Phra Thinang Wetchayan Wichian Prasat pavilion, and the astronomy-loving kings observatory stand.
